Own your agents. Don't rent them.
Almost all the AI you can buy today is rented: a subscription per person, running in the vendor's cloud, on the vendor's model. A private AI team is the other way round. It's a team of AI agents your company owns, on your own computers, using any AI model you choose. Each agent has its own login, permissions and job, and together they run real work: your apps, email, data and websites.
What you own is the team: the agents, their jobs, their memory, their rules and the work they do. You still choose the AI model underneath, using the plan you already pay for or a local model.
K2 is software for running a private AI team · Claude, ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini or a local model · Mac (Apple Silicon) and Linux · Fair Source
Two questions: who owns it, and is it one assistant or a team?
AI subscriptions
A chat assistant per person, like the ChatGPT, Claude or Grok apps. It runs in the vendor's cloud and answers when you ask.
Agent subscriptions
AI agents you subscribe to inside another company's product and cloud, priced per seat or per task.
A self-hosted chatbot
A chat app on your own server. Private, but it still waits for questions.
A private AI team
Agents your company owns, on your computers, on any model, with jobs, schedules and permissions, that run your software. This is what K2 is for.
It doesn't wait to be asked. It has jobs.
A chatbot answers a question and forgets. A private AI team works like staff: each agent has a role, a schedule and a memory of the work, and the agents hand tasks to each other. You check in from your phone.
The whole company shares it. Owners, admins and members each get their own login, and each agent gets only the access you give it.
Examples of jobs people give a team: every morning, chase overdue invoices and draft the reminders for you to check. Every week, update the client list and flag anything missing. Overnight, fix a reported bug in your app and report what changed. You pick the jobs.
Your agents can work with theirs.
Every agent on K2 has an address. Once two owners agree to pair, your private AI team can work with another company's: your agent asks their agent how their billing export works, or a supplier's agent answers a stock question at 2 a.m. Each side keeps its own data, its own rules and its own AI plan. They share answers, not access.
Owned means you decide what it does.
You decide which agent can send email and whether it waits for your yes, which can touch the database, and which model each one uses. Agents can't loosen their own rules.
Agents that run the software, not just answer about it.
Appalachian Field Service left almost 10 years of Quickbase. The team behind K2 moved it onto software it owns, built on K2, and its agents stayed on to keep improving it.
What "private" means today.
Private, not offline
Your files and agents stay on your machine. Agents still send prompts to the AI model you chose. Use a local model to keep prompts on your machine too.
Mac and Linux
K2 runs on Macs with Apple Silicon and on Linux. On Windows, use a K2 Cloud server in your browser.
Email and database on Linux
Company email and database hosting need a K2 Cloud or Linux server.
No single sign-on yet
